A N T A R I O

Fine Wines from Northern Italy

In 1997 Casa Girelli decided to expand its portfolio to include an exclusive range of wines of outstanding quality made in only limited quantities, from specially selected, small producers in the best-located areas of Piedmont and the Venezie. Fittingly named Antario (after the star, "Antarius"), these wines are elegantly packaged to portray the excellence of their contents.

Antario Gavi DOC

Gavi (DOC) is Piedmont’s world-famous white wine. Dry and fruity, with hints of almonds, Antario Gavi DOC is produced for Casa Girelli at the tenuta "La Marchesa", in the Alto Monferrato region of Alessandria in the heart of the Gavi zone of Piedmont. The villa was built around 1700 and is classified a national monument, while the property covers 76 hectares of which 53 are planted with vines. Today "La Marchesa" is renowned as one of the area’s largest and most respected estates. In order to correctly convey the high quality of the wine, it is elegantly packaged in a dark-glass, heavy-weight Bordeaux bottle.

Current Vintages: 1996 / 1997
Grapes: 100% Cortese
Area: "La Marchesa" estate in Alto Monferrato, Alessandria (Piedmont)
Harvest: end September
Vinification: Soft pressing
Fermentation: Temperature controlled at 17-18°C in stainless steel tanks
Alcohol: 11.5%
Tasting Notes: Pale straw coloured, intense bouquet, fresh fruity palate and a complex finish, reminiscent of almonds.
No. cases made: 1,000
Retail price: approximately $13.99

Antario Barolo DOCG

This full-bodied, rich and elegant Barolo is produced and estate bottled for Casa Girelli at Vigneto Castelletto, a small estate located in Castiglione Faletto in the heart of Piedmont’s Barolo country. Barolo was one of Italy’s first wines to be classified a DOCG (in 1981) of which there are only twelve. This wine is considered by many connoisseurs across the globe, as the country’s finest red.

Current Vintages: 1993 / 1994
Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo
Area: exclusively Vigneto Castelletto estate in Castiglione Faletto
Harvest: mid-September
Vinification: traditional long maceration on skins to obtain the best extraction of color and structure.
Fermentation: Malolactic fermentation in barrel (small Slavonian oak casks)
Ageing: at least 3 years; 2 years in Slavonian oak casks and 1 year in bottle.
Alcohol: 13% vol.
Tasting Notes: Garnet red; full-bodied with an intense bouquet; rich palate, tightly structured, loaded with herbal fruit and spicy tannins; a long, noble finish. Drink now, but it will improve with age.
No. bottles made: 2,500
Retail price: approximately $29.95

Antario Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT

This wine is also new to Casa Girelli’s portfolio. Given the popular demand for Pinot Grigio, we decided to select the best of the best to produce one of the finest examples of Pinot Grigio. In order to match this high quality, the wine is packaged in a heavy, dark-colored-glass bottle.

Current Vintages: 1996 / 1997
Grapes: 100% Pinot Grigio
Area: select vineyards in the Venezie appellation
Harvest: mid-September
Vinification: soft pressing
