THE MAN BEHIND VILLA CAFAGGIO

Born in 1951 in picturesque Lake Como, Stefano Farkas was one of the five children of a successful textile designer.

As a young man, he went to school in Florence, and followed by attending the University of Milan where he studied philosophy. His parents bought the Villa Cafaggio estate in 1967 as a country home for the family, which marked Stefano and, in fact, changed the lives of the entire family. Upon completion of his military service in 1973, Stefano began working on the property, rebuilding the houses, replanting the vines and installing the most modern, technologically advanced winery in Italy.

The best oenological consultants were employed to initiate and advise on every phase of grape growing and wine making. Stefano dedicated himself to listening to and learning from these qualified experts, as well as the local wine makers and growers, often double his age, who tought him the Tuscan traditions and techniques that have been handed down from generation to generation for centuries.

Stefano is now married and has two daughters. His wife, Tiziana, works as a fabric designer (as does his father in Paris). They live in one of the exquisite medieval farmhouses on the Villa Cafaggio estate, overlooking the Solatio Basilica vineyard.
